Glenn can handle Warriors: Parker

Brisbane captain Corey Parker has backed Alex Glenn to fill their centre vacancy against a vengeful Warriors backline in Friday night’s NRL clash at Suncorp Stadium.

Centre Jordan Kahu (quad) has been ruled out for two to four weeks after breaking down in Brisbane’s season-opening win at Parramatta on Thursday.

Parker ruled out fast-tracking a return by Jack Reed from a shoulder injury, saying the robust Glenn fit the bill against a physical Warriors backline out to silence the critics.

Glenn filled in for Kahu early in the 17-4 victory over the Eels, setting up a try to winger Corey Oates.

“Jack is a quality footballer but it is a long season – you don’t want to bring Reedy back now if he is not ready,” Parker said.

Asked if Glenn was best to fill the void against a daunting Warriors backline, Parker said: “He filled there the other night.

“He has the ability to fill the role and done it before – he would do a fine job.

“I think they get bigger the further they (Warriors) go out on the paddock – it’s always a physical game against the Warriors.”

Parker admitted Brisbane were bracing themselves for a backlash after the Warriors came under fire for their first round loss to the lowly rated Wests Tigers.

Pressure is already mounting on Warriors coach Andrew McFadden.

“They grow another leg against Brisbane,” Parker said.

“They are a big side with plenty of supporters up here – they will want to turn around their round one result.”

Parker said he was unconcerned that Brisbane did not exactly blow Parramatta off the park in their season opener despite their backline being bolstered by Dally M Centre of the Year James Roberts.

He said the backline reshuffle caused by Kahu’s injury did not help Brisbane’s chances.

But he felt it was a step in the right direction that they limited the new-look Eels to just one try at home.

“We won that game on the back of our defence which is encouraging – our attack will come,” he said.
