Gallen in doubt for Origin III

NSW and Cronulla skipper Paul Gallen will undergo scans on Thursday night to determine if he will be fit for the State of Origin decider.

Gallen suffered rib cartilage damage in the first half of NSW’s 26-18 win over Queensland in Origin II on Wednesday night at the MCG.

He left the field but returned to finish the game with the aid of a painkilling injection.

“I’m not sure what to make of it at this stage. I’ve never had rib cartilage problems before,” Gallen said.

“I’ll have the scans tonight but it will be a matter of how much pain I can put up with.”

Gallen was due to have scans on Thursday night and will be assessed on Friday by Sharks medical staff.

He is in extreme doubt for the Sharks’ clash on Sunday afternoon with the Newcastle.
