Farah can smell Four Nations success

Nose surgery may loom for Robbie Farah but the veteran believes the sweet smell of success is still in the air for the injury-hit Kangaroos.

Wily hooker Farah confirmed he had defied new Wests Tigers coach Jason Taylor and delayed a sinus operation to play the Four Nations tournament starting in Brisbane on Saturday night.

It ensured Australian selectors were breathing easier after already welcoming 11 new faces into their 24-strong squad.

With surgery to improve his breathing on hold, Farah had another issue though – a concern that his snoring would upset roommate and Kangaroos debutant Matt Moylan while they were in camp.

But it turned out Farah was the one facing a sleepless night when Moylan got some shut eye in their Brisbane hotel.

“He was snoring and I couldn’t get to bed. I was watching the soccer anyway,” laughed Farah, a huge Liverpool fan.

Farah, 30, revealed that Taylor had prompted him to get the operation as soon as possible but the Tigers skipper made it clear that would be after national duty.

“It was pretty hard for me to make that call and give up an Australian jumper,” Farah said.

“We worked our way through it. We’re comfortable with it all now.

“I’m booked for the operation the week after the final.

“I’ll be back into full training when I need to be with the Tigers.”

Farah said no further damage could be done during their Four Nations campaign which starts against New Zealand this weekend.

“I’ve had it for a couple of years so I’m used to it,” he said.

“I’ll get the full nose job done when I’ve retired.

“This (post-tournament operation) is just to help the breathing.

Farah’s relationship with ill-fated Wests Tigers coach Mick Potter had come under question before Wests Tigers finished a disappointing 13th this season past.

But he believed a Four Nations win would cap an otherwise “very good” year.

“It has been a rollercoaster year (but) I look back on all the good things that happened,” said Farah.

“The Tigers showed glimpses of what we can do.

“Then to finally break the (Origin) drought (with NSW) … that made it a very good year.

“Hopefully (we can) top it off with a Four Nations final win.”
