Family boost form for Storm’s Bromwich

The only thing that could make life sweeter for Melbourne prop Jesse Bromwich is an NRL premiership.

The New Zealand international is having his best season, arguably managing to eclipse Storm superstars Cameron Smith, Billy Slater and Cooper Cronk as his side’s most consistent performer.

Ahead of Melbourne’s sudden-death NRL final against Canterbury at AAMI Park on Sunday, Bromwich said contentment in his life off-field was behind his impressive form.

“It’s definitely the best year I’ve had,” Bromwich said.

“I think it comes from being in a good place – having a good life outside of football helps.

“It makes me think that footy isn’t everything. When I go home to my family it’s not about footy, it’s about them.”

The 25-year-old missed the Storm’s round 23 win over Penrith due to the birth of his second son but hasn’t missed a beat since his return.

In their final round win against Brisbane he did plenty of damage running 131 metres while also making 42 tackles.

“Going out there off the back of having a new baby boy, I’m just pumped to be out there,” he said.

Bromwich said the Bulldogs presented a tough challenge, despite their faltering form.

They have beaten the Storm twice this year with their forward pack proving a handful.

Last time they met in round 18 at AAMI Park it was a 6-4 arm-wrestle.

“They’re a really good team and they always play with their forwards through the middle so I’ve got a really big job ahead of Sunday,” He said.

“They’ve got some really good front rowers so it will be a good battle with players like James Graham and Aiden Tolman, who are good, hard workers.”

Bromwich said the Storm had extra size this year which he felt would make an impact as they looked to improve on last year’s elimination in the finals with two straight defeats.

“We’ve definitely got a bigger team this year and through the middle we’ve been really good.

“Jordan McLean has been really good for us in the last month and having that extra size really helps, especially against big teams like the Bulldogs.”
