Falloon named Titans’ best player of 2014

Gold Coast hooker Beau Falloon has pipped State of Origin representative Dave Taylor to win the Paul Broughton medal as the Titans’ player of the season.

The 27-year-old scored 17 votes to beat Taylor by just one vote in the eighth end-of-season awards night for the NRL club.

It’s the first time Falloon has won the club’s best and fairest.

The ex-South Sydney player, who joined the Titans in 2012, polled 16 of his votes in the last 10 rounds.

Taylor was the early front-runner after polling 13 of his 16 votes in the first half of the season but neck and calf injuries limited his opportunity to build on that lead in the final matches of the season.

“It’s a great reward for Beau’s consistency in a very tough season where he was forced to often play long minutes and with injury,” Titans coach Neil Henry said.

“He epitomises the qualities every coach and teammate look for in that he is tough, committed on and off the field, and plays well above his weight.”

In other awards, retiring foundation player Luke Bailey claimed the member’s most valuable player gong and the Preston Award, named in honour of Preston Campbell and awarded to the player who embodies the Titans’ values.

Young gun Paul Carter was also rewarded for his impressive first season with the Titans, coming third in the best-and-fairest count and winning the rookie of the year prize.
