Michael Ennis has nominated James Graham as the man to replace him as Canterbury captain.

Ennis’s move to Cronulla in the NRL off season has left the top job open at Belmore.

The 2014 grand finalists are expected to announce their new skipper at their season launch on Tuesday evening and Ennis says England international Graham is the man for the job.

“He is one of a kind James, he will go down as one of if not the greatest import that has been over here,” Ennis told AAP.

“He is an extremely talented guy who leads by example in his training and on the field.

“He certainly wouldn’t be out of place captaining that side.

“He is certainly a good leader, a very, very good leader.

“He has led his country, did a great job in the grand final last year.”

Graham guided the Bulldogs in their grand final defeat to South Sydney after Ennis was ruled out with an ankle injury.

The 29-year-old front-rower also captained England in the early stages of the Four Nations last year when regular skipper Sean O’Loughlin was sidelined with a thigh injury.

Frank Pritchard was a surprise choice as Ennis’s co-captain last year and he too will come into coach Des Hasler’s calculations.

Hasler, who likes to keep his cards close to his chest, has a number of leadership options according to Ennis.

“There are endless guys there in that roster that could captain that club, guys like Aidan Tolman, your halves in (Josh) Reynolds and (Trent) Hodkinson, either of those guys, Josh Jackson Frank Pritchard, he has been there and helped me out enormously last year,” Ennis said.

“The list goes on, Josh Morris has really grown into a good leader too.

“They have a wealth of options there and an extremely strong roster and they will be hard to beat this year.”
