Engaged McKinnon moved to Sydney hospital

Alex McKinnon has been moved to a Sydney hospital from Melbourne as he continues his recovery from spinal surgery.

The Newcastle Knights released a statement on Monday that McKinnon was still in a stable condition.

“The club again requests Alex and his family’s privacy is respected at this time,” the statement concluded.

The news comes after McKinnon announced his engagement to partner Teigan Power on Sunday night.

“This girl is my soldier, I am truly overwhelmed with the support and wishes from everybody in the rugby league society and the community at large,” McKinnon wrote on social networking site Instagram.

“Your ongoing support will never be forgotten. P.S when life throws you struggles respond with a smile. So happy to announce Teigan and my engagement.”

McKinnon was brought out of an induced coma two weeks ago following surgery for damage to his C4 and C5 vertebrae and has been conscious since.

Newcastle play North Queensland in Townsville on Monday night, their second match since McKinnnon was injured in the round three match with Melbourne at AAMI Park.
