Dragons’ Thompson to challenge NRL ban

St George Illawarra back-rower Joel Thompson will contest his high-tackle charge on Wednesday night at the NRL judiciary.

Thompson faces a two-match ban if found guilty of the grade-two hit on his Sydney Roosters opposite in the Dragons’ controversial Anzac Day win.

Thompson will join Brisbane forward Adam Blair in fronting the judiciary. Blair is contesting a grade-one dangerous contact charge for his hit on Adam Reynolds in the Broncos’ win on Friday.

Meanwhile, Newcastle’s Sam Mataora will miss Saturday’s clash with the Roosters after taking the early guilty plea on his dangerous contact charge.
