Dragons sign Irish international

St George Illawarra have bolstered their forward stocks for next season, announcing the signing of Irish international Tyrone McCarthy.

The 27-year-old lock has played 72 English Super League games with Warrington and Hull KR and last season had a brief stint in Australia, winning the Queensland Cup with the Northern Pride.

“Tyrone is a versatile player who has shown a keen interest in testing himself at the highest level in the NRL competition,” said Dragons Director of Recruitment & Retention Peter Mulholland.

“He has established himself in the Super League competition and has a sound understanding of what is required to compete in the NRL from his time playing for the Northern Pride in the Queensland Cup.”

The Dragons will farewell fellow forwards Trent Merrin and Rory O’Brien at the end of the season. Former Panther and Rooster Mose Masoe will also join McCarthy in returning to the Dragons from the English Super League.
