DCE coup proof of Titans bright NRL future

Daly Cherry-Evans’ commitment to Gold Coast is proof the Titans have a successful future, according to the NRL club’s boss Graham Annesley.

The Titans secured the recruiting coup of their nine-year history on Friday, when Cherry-Evans announced he had agreed to a four-year deal starting in 2016.

After the Titans’ cocaine dramas and financial problems, which led to the NRL taking control of the club, Annesley said the signing of Manly star Cherry-Evans heralded a new era for rugby league on the Gold Coast.

“I think this signing sends a positive sign to the rugby league world that this club does have a future and it can attract quality players and it can turn itself around,” he said.

“This is a major step in that.

“Daly’s calibre as a player is obvious but he has also shown to us to be a quality person as well as a good family man and very respectful and he will be an enormous asset for the Titans as we build for the future.

“We are honoured that he chose the Titans as his club after he completes his commitments with Manly this season where I am sure he will give his all.”

Queensland and Australian star Cherry-Evans’ profile is set to boost interest in rugby league on the holiday strip in the same way Gary Ablett Jr’s move to AFL outfit the Gold Coast Suns has.

South Sydney playmaker Luke Keary has been mentioned as a possible halves partner for Cherry-Evans next season.

The Titans beat Cronulla to the punch for Cherry-Evans’ signature.

Manly will turn their attention to retaining Cherry-Evans’ halves partner at Brookvale, Kieran Foran.
