Cowboys sign Eels back-rower Tanginoa

North Queensland have signed young Parramatta back-rower Kelepi Tanginoa on a two-year NRL deal from 2015.

The 20-year-old has played 13 first-grade games for the Eels, but only four this season.

He was also part of last year’s under-20s NSW State of Origin squad.

“We believe Kelepi is one of the best young back-row talents in the NRL and expect he will thrive with the Cowboys,” general manager of football Peter Parr said on Friday.

“He’ll be determined to become a regular first grader in 2015 and he’ll get the opportunity to do that with us.

“We’re confident he will be a long-term success and our members and fans will thoroughly enjoy watching him play his footy.”

Tanginoa is the Cowboys’ fourth new signing for next season, following Brisbane’s Jake Granville, Melbourne’s Tim Glasby and Gold Coast junior Kyle McConnell.

The club will be without star forward Tariq Sims, who last month was granted a released from the final year of his contract to sign a two-year deal with Newcastle.
