Cowboys re-sign Linnett for two more years

North Queensland have re-signed another member of their premiership-winning team, with centre Kane Linnett the latest to commit to the NRL club.

Linnett has signed a new deal keeping him in Townsville until the end of the 2018 season.

The 27-year-old is the third member of the Cowboys’ grand-final winning side to sign a new deal in recent weeks, joining fullback Lachlan Coote and winger Antonio Winterstein.

Linnett joined the Cowboys in 2012 after two seasons with the Sydney Roosters and has gone on to play 111 games for North Queensland, scoring 46 tries.

The Scotland international says North Queensland has quickly become his home since his move from Sydney.

“I always wanted to stay here. When I came up from the Roosters at the start of 2012, I haven’t looked back and have thoroughly enjoyed playing with such great teammates and in such a settled environment,” he said.

“This is a fantastic club to play for, and the recent success we’ve had adds to that enjoyment.”

Several members of the Cowboys remain off-contract at season’s end however including grand final players James Tamou, Ben Hannant, Justin O’Neill, Ethan Lowe and Rory Kostjasyn.

Tamou has been linked with a move to Sydney for family reasons, while Queensland State of Origin newcomer O’Neill is reportedly a target for Melbourne, who released the outside back to the Cowboys at the end of 2014.
