Cowboys extend Kostjasyn’s NRL contract

North Queensland have re-signed utility Rory Kostjasyn until the end of the 2016 NRL season.

Brought in from Melbourne late in 2012, Kostjasyn has been the Cowboys’ starting hooker since round three and is yet to miss a game this year.

“Rory has become a regular first grader with the Cowboys and we expect that will continue as he continues to develop his game here,” the club’s general manager of football, Peter Parr, said in a statement on Wednesday.

“He has a tremendous work ethic and attitude to his football, and is highly regarded by his teammates and our staff.

“He’s one of those players who is ready to take on a more senior role with the Cowboys in the coming seasons.”

The 27-year-old said it had been a privilege to work alongside the likes of representatives Jonathan Thurston, Matt Scott and Brent Tate.

“It’s a really fortunate position I find myself in,” he added.

“I’ve also been given a good opportunity by Greeny (coach Paul Green) this year with the hooker role and I want to continue to try to make the most of that.

“What we are doing here is definitely heading in the right direction.”
