Carney extends Catalans stay

Todd Carney has ended speculation over his future in Super League by announcing he’s signed a new three-year contract with Catalans Dragons.

The 26-year-old former Canberra, Sydney Roosters and Cronulla star joined the Dragons on a three-year deal 12 months ago after being sacked by the Sharks following the publishing of a lewd photo of the NSW representative on social media.

But after successfully winning a case of wrongful dismissal against the club in March there was speculation Carney would return to the NRL when his current contract expired.

However, Catalans said on their Twitter account on Tuesday night that Carney announced at the club’s end-of-season awards dinner that he has signed a new three-year contract to stay in Perpignan.

“Todd Carney has just announced at the awards night that he has signed a new three year deal with the Catalans Dragons,” read the Tweet.

Carney will be joined by Glenn Stewart and Dave Taylor in 2016 after the pair agreed deals to sign earlier this year.
