Bulldogs wary of fired-up Titans

Gold Coast’s NRL finals chances have been extinguished, but with a host of Titans big names retiring, Canterbury expect they will still bring plenty of heart to their final round clash.

The threat of a fired-up Titans side is not lost on the Bulldogs, who are chasing a win to lock down a finals berth.

Sunday’s match at Cbus Super Stadium will be foundation player Luke Bailey’s last for the Titans, bringing an end to his 14-year career.

Ashley Harrison is also retiring, while Mark Minichiello is leaving the Gold Coast for the UK to join Hull FC.

It’ll also be Neil Henry’s first game since signing a three-year deal as head coach, having been interim coach since round 22.

“They’ve got plenty to play for,” Bulldogs prop Aiden Tolman said on Wednesday.

“They’re sending some players off, and it’s their last game of the season in front of their home crowd.

“We know it’s going to be tough. I’m sure they will be fired up.”

Meanwhile, the Bulldogs need to win to ensure their finals fate is not reliant on other results.

But Tolman said the players are focused on the task at hand, not distracted by the close race for the eight.

“It’s a very close race this year,” he said.

“We don’t need to worry about that. The result is up to us.

“If we perform like we know we can then it won’t be a problem.”
