Broncos player subject of extortion bid

Brisbane are standing firm behind one of their players after they were the victim of yet another NRL extortion attempt.

Several media outlets have been offered a video which alleges to show a Broncos player sniffing a substance off the back of a toilet seat in a Sydney pub.

Those who have seen the footage say the person is seen very briefly and is unable to be identified because of the quality of the footage.

The player has denied the claim and club officials say it is impossible to prove it is him or that any drug use has even occurred, even though it is implied.

The Seven Network reported they had been offered the footage for $50,000 while News Corp said it had been given an asking price of $70,000.

The club became aware of the allegation a week ago and officials would not comment, believing it is a non-story and their player is innocent of all accusations.

It came in the same week a sex tape featuring Parramatta five-eighth Corey Norman was shopped around for $150,000.

The NRL integrity unit is aware of the tape but no formal investigation has been launched.

Following their 30-10 win over South Sydney at ANZ Stadium on Saturday night, coach Wayne Bennett refused to be drawn on the saga, saying: “I don’t know a great deal about it.”

When asked if the club was investigating, he said: “No, not to my knowledge.”
