Broncos in Sydney early for Manly NRL game

Brisbane have gone into finals mode bunkering down in Sydney early to build up for their crunch NRL clash with defending premiers Manly at Brookvale Oval on Friday.

Coach Anthony Griffin took his 18-man squad to Sydney on Tuesday night to prepare them for the encounter against the side which knocked them out of last year’s finals series one game short of a grand final appearance.

Brisbane had been scheduled to have their final training run at their Red Hill base but instead will have a closed session in Sydney’s eastern suburbs.

The Broncos are sitting seventh and need to upset Manly or beat Penrith the following weekend to be assured of a place in the top eight.

Two losses could result in them missing the finals for only the second time in 21 years.

Forwards Alex Glenn (hamstring) and Josh McGuire (eye) are both expected to be cleared to line up against Manly who have several injury concerns.
