Berrigan possible starter for Canberra

Injury-plagued Canberra could get a shot in the arm ahead of Monday night’s NRL clash with St George Illawarra with utility Shaun Berrigan rating himself a chance to play.

Berrigan has been down and out with a bicep injury since round 13, but could be a late inclusion to the team that coach David Furner announced on Tuesday.

The former Bronco said medical staff will be keeping a close eye on his progress this week, but he was thinking positive.

“It’s feeling good and I’ve had no troubles in the gym with any lifting, so hopefully it can get through the sessions,” Berrigan said.

“I haven’t been named and I won’t play if it’s not 100 per cent, so I’ll wait until later in the week.”

Meanwhile, injured forward Joel Thompson (hand) will also need to prove his fitness, despite being named in Furner’s starting 13.

He is expected to resume full training later this week.
