Bennett on the right track says Parker

Brisbane veteran Corey Parker has given his blessing to Wayne Bennett’s spring clean at Red Hill, including the exit of Ben Barba to Cronulla.

Bennett has swept a broom through the Broncos since his return after six years away, with Barba’s move last week following the departures of Ben Hannant, Josh Hoffman and Martin Kennedy.

A co-captain under former coach Anthony Griffin, Parker could take sole leadership of the Broncos in 2015 after Bennett indicated he was not keen to continue with two skippers.

As such, the representative forward shapes as a key player in Bennett’s Red Hill revolution and said that change was needed at Queensland’s flagship NRL club.

“Wayne made it very clear when he did come back, we had a meeting about it all, that things were going to change and obviously you have seen the results of that,” Parker told AAP.

“He has certainly shaken things up and you have seen that with player movement over the past two weeks.

“He is the coach and at the end of the day he is the boss.

“One thing I do know is that we are in a result-orientated business and from the standards the Broncos have set we probably haven’t delivered the results in recent years.

Parker will become the second Bronco, behind Darren Lockyer (355 NRL games), to play 300 first grade games for the club in Brisbane’s first game of 2015.

“I have worked with Wayne for nearly a decade before he left so we have a very good relationship,” Parker said.

“It is pretty fitting like that, a little bit ironic. Wayne gave me the start in 2001 and his first game back will be my 300th.

“It will be a pretty special moment for myself.”
