Woman appointed Sauber team principal

Sauber Motorsport says Monisha Kaltenborn will replace Peter Sauber at the helm of the Swiss-based team to become Formula One’s first female team principal.

The team says at the Korean Grand Prix that the 41-year-old Kaltenborn, who was previously chief executive, will take over Sauber’s day-to-day duties running the team.

Sauber, who will be 69 on Saturday, had previously said he intends to step back before turning 70.

Sauber, which made its Formula One debut in 1993, has had four podium finishes in 15 races so far this season, including Japanese driver Kamui Kobayashi’s third-place finish at his home Suzuka circuit on Sunday.
