Winterbottom fires again in Tasmania

Mark Winterbottom has firmed to return to the winning podium after dominating the final V8 Supercars practice at Symmons Plains in Tasmania.

The reigning series champion was quickest again around the circuit, topping the timing charts with a 51.098 second lap; within a tenth of a second of the practice lap record.

Winterbottom is without a race win since Sandown last year and has not claimed success at Symmons since 2010.

Scott McLaughlin steered his Volvo to second, with DJR Team Penske’s Fabian Coulthard third.

The Red Bull Racing duo of Shane Van Gisbergen and Jamie Whincup were well off the pace in 14th and 18th.

Qualifying for Saturday’s 120km race takes place at 2:35pm, with the race at 4:45pm.
