Webber unhurt after bad crash in Brazil

Retired Australian Formula One driver Mark Webber has reportedly escaped injury after a high-speed crash in Brazil.

The former Red Bull driver slammed his Porsche into the wall during a FIA World Endurance Championship race in Sao Paulo.

His vehicle hit the concrete barrier after colliding with Ferrari’s Matteo Cressoni.

The Australian had qualified in pole position for the endurance event, but crashed with less than half-an-hour left in the race.

Webber’s Porsche burst into flames and spun across the track after the accident.

But he appeared unhurt, waving and giving the crowd a thumbs up as he was taken away on a stretcher.

Porsche Motorsport later tweeted Webber was not injured, while world governing body FIA said he was alert and awake after being taken to the circuit’s medical centre for further checks.

Cressoni was checked trackside but did not require further examination.

The 6 Hours of Sao Paulo ended behind the safety car.
