Ford driver David Reynolds has snared the first pole position of his V8 Supercars career for Sunday’s 200km race in Townsville.
Reynolds beat teammates Mark Winterbottom and Will Davison in a Ford Performance Racing 1-2-3 to qualify fastest in the 20-minute qualifying run at the Reid Park street circuit.
The 27-year-old clocked a one minute and 12.5817 second lap to take pole, with Winterbottom second-fastest with a 1:12.6489 and Davison third (1:12.7129).
“Awesome effort by the boys,” Reynolds told the Seven Network.
“The car’s been so pacey – it’s about time we got a pole.”
Holden veteran Craig Lowndes qualified fifth-fastest with teammate and championship leader Jamie Whincup to start from ninth on the grid.
Ex-Formula One champion Jacques Villeneuve will start from last position for the second time this weekend, again finishing more than half a second behind his nearest competitor.
Sunday’s race begins at 3.35pm (AEST).
