Ogier makes it three in Rally of Mexico

World champion Sebastien Ogier has reeled off his third consecutive win of the season in the Rally of Mexico.

The VW Polo ace, on the mark already in Sweden and the season-opener in Monte Carlo, sealed victory on Sunday by over one minute from Mads Ostberg in a Citroen DS3.

Ostberg’s fellow Norwegian Andreas Mikkelson (VW), took third, 6.3 seconds behind when the rally finished in Leon.

Ogier won this leg of the championship in 2013 and 2014.

The rally was marked by Estonian Ott Tanak’s terrifying ordeal when his Ford Fiesta crashed into a lake on Friday.

Dramatic footage of the accident was caught by helmet and on-board cameras.

Tanak and co-driver Raigo Molder escaped unhurt after their car slid off the side of the road and hurtled into the lake, quickly disappearing beneath the surface.

“If you are in a lake, close to the limit of your life and fighting for it, when you finally win that fight it’s an amazing feeling,” said the 27-year-old Tanak, dubbed “TiTanak” by his M-Sport team.

Tanak and Molder escaped from their M-Sport World Rally Team car in fewer than 10 seconds, with the car sinking to the bottom of the lake in just 25 seconds.
