Mostert snares another V8s pole

Flying Ford driver Chaz Mostert has secured pole position for Saturday’s first 20-lap V8 Supercars race at Queensland Raceway.

The Prodrive Racing Australia star, who has signed a new deal with the team until the end of 2019, posted a one minute and 09.7755 second fastest lap in the 10-minute qualifying session.

It’s the seventh pole position out of the past 12 races for Mostert.

The Bathurst champion was a whopping 0.2479 seconds ahead of the nearest driver on the timesheets, teammate and championship leader Mark Winterbottom (1:10.0234).

It’s the biggest margin for pole for a race at Queensland Raceway since Jason Bright secured P1 for the 1999 race at the 3.12km circuit.

Another Prodrive racer, Andre Heimgartner (1:10.0367), will start the race from third position alongside fellow New Zealander Scott McLaughlin.

Holden’s Craig Lowndes will start from fifth while teammate and defending champion Jamie Whincup could only qualify 11th.

Saturday’s first 20-lap race starts at 2.25pm AEST.
