Mostert quickest at Ipswich V8s

Flying Ford driver Chaz Mostert continues to be the one-lap king on the V8 Supercars circuit.

Mostert, who has claimed six of the past 11 pole positions in this year’s championship, topped the timesheets in Friday’s practice for the Ipswich SuperSprint event at Queensland Raceway.

The Prodrive Racing Australia star clocked a fastest lap of one minute and 09.4881 seconds in the second hour-long practice run at the 3.12km circuit.

He finished ahead of Holden’s Tim Slade (1:09.8331) and Volvo driver Scott McLaughlin (1:09.9949) to suggest he’ll again be the man to beat in qualifying for Saturday’s pair of 20-lap races.

Teammate and championship leader Mark Winterbottom looks to have some work to do after finishing the session in a lowly 16th-place.

Holden pair Craig Lowndes and Jamie Whincup finished 10th and 11th respectively on the timesheets.

Earlier in the day, two-time champion Marcos Ambrose completed his penultimate hit-out before this year’s endurance races by finishing eighth in the morning’s co-driver only session.

Nissan’s Dean Fiore topped that half-hour session, his fastest lap over a half a second quicker than Ambrose, whose V8 Supercars return has been in hiatus since he stepped away from his drive earlier in the year.
