New Zealand driver Scott McLaughlin has been named best-and-fairest driver of the year at the V8 Supercars awards ceremony, beating out series champion Jamie Whincup.
Volvo driver McLaughlin, 21, became the first Kiwi to win the Barry Sheene Medal based on the votes of former drivers and members of the media.
It is awarded to the driver who shows outstanding leadership, personality, fan appeal and sportsmanship throughout the season.
McLaughlin claimed 10 pole positions, equal with Whincup, and won four races on his way to a fifth-place finish in the series.
It was his second season in the class, and won the rookie driver award last year.
Meanwhile, five-time champion Mark Skaife was inducted into the sport’s Hall of Fame.
