Ingall apologises for V8 outburst

Russell Ingall’s scathing verbal attack on V8 Supercars officials is set to land him in hot water.

V8 Supercars driving standards observer Jason Bargwanna confirmed on Sunday that Ingall was under scrutiny for his post-race outburst on Saturday.

Veteran racer Ingall apologised on Sunday after calling the officials who penalised him “peanuts” and suggesting fans would “kick the s… out” of them over their decision given the chance.

Ingall, known as The Enforcer, had been responding to a mid-race drive-through penalty that cost him several positions in Saturday’s first race at Winton.

The oldest driver in the V8 Supercars field didn’t miss, saying the decision was the result of “dopey rules made by dopey idiots”.

“It’s alright for these peanuts to sit up in that ivory tower of theirs, and just hand out punishments like that,” he said.

“I’d like to drag them those guys down in front of the fans to see what they thought.

“They’d kick the s… out of them.”

While Ingall apologised for the remarks immediately prior to Sunday’s race, he wasn’t backing down on his opinion that it was an incorrect decision.

“There was a fair bit of emotion involved… after reviewing it there were a couple of things I should have known better,” he said.

“I do apologise for a couple of those people who were definitely targetted.”

“But I do believe it was an incorrect call.”

Bargwanna said Ingall was being looked at possible breaches of two rules – bringing the sport into disrepute and threatening officials.

“When you are on for a result there is a lot of passion involved… but once you start to attack the officials that’s stepping over the line,” said Bargwanna.

“It’s my role to investigate that and find out whether that is a breach.”

If charged, Ingall will have the option to plead guilty or have the matter heard by a tribunal.

Ingall, who had superior speed to most of the field in Saturday’s first race thanks to changing his tyres, had zoomed into a podium position from the back of the field.

But after being served his punishment for bumping David Wall in a passing move, Ingall lost a dozen race positions and finished 10th.

Both Ingall and Bargwanna are former Bathurst winners.
