Holden pair on form at Eastern Creek V8s

Holden pair Craig Lowndes and Jamie Whincup appear to have the edge over Ford rivals Mark Winterbottom and Will Davison going into Saturday’s 140km V8 Supercars race in Sydney.

Lowndes and Whincup finished second and third respectively in both 30 minute practice runs at Sydney Motorsport Park in Eastern Creek on Saturday morning, laying down a gauntlet to the Ford pair.

Irwin Racing’s Lee Holdsworth (1:30.7673) topped the timesheets in P1 while Tekno Motorsports Jonathon Webb was fastest in P2 with a 1:30.4514.

Lowndes was just behind Webb in the second session, clocking a 1:30.4794 at the refurbished 3.93km circuit.

Whincup posted a 1:30.5573 to move into the top three in the dying seconds of the session.

Winterbottom, second in the championship standings behind Whincup, could only post the ninth fastest time in the second practice session while Davison was well back in 23rd position.

The action resumes with a qualifying run from 2.05pm before Saturday’s race begins at 4.05pm.
