Zamorar is favourite to win first-up at Flemington on Saturday but for trainer David Bourne the result will be secondary.

Rising six-year-old Zamorar, a multiple stakes placegetter, returns in the Singapore Turf Club Handicap (1000m) for his first start since undergoing a throat operation.

“He’s been down to Cranbourne for a trial and everything seems to be in order,” Bourne said.

Zamorar placed in five consecutive stakes races as a late season three-year-old and early four-year-old but will be chasing his first win since May, 2012.

Bourne said Zamorar had a throat infection after his first-up failure in the Hareeba Stakes in February.

He later started making a noise in trackwork leading to him having a throat operation.

Zamorar is the $3.50 favourite for the straight-track race, having won a 760-metre barrier trial at Cranbourne on July 1 by 2-3/4 lengths.

He has placed in three of his four Flemington starts and was fourth in the 2011 Group One Coolmore Stud Stakes for three-year-olds in his other start at the track.

Bourne said he wants to see the sprinter perform well on Saturday and hopefully put a few good performances together before he thinks about making any grand plans.

“We’re happy to have him out there tomorrow but we’re not going to live and die by what happens tomorrow,” he said.
