Yankee Rose improves ahead of Champagne Stakes 2016

Trainer David Vandyke expects Yankee Rose to run in the Champagne Stakes despite the filly still showing signs of lameness.

Yankee Rose pulled up mildly lame and with pain in her near-fore heel after a track gallop at Warwick Farm on Wednesday.

She is the $1.40 favourite to win the Group One Champagne, but Racing NSW senior vet Craig Suann will have the final say on whether she runs when he inspects the filly on Friday morning.

“She’s improved a lot today from yesterday,” Vandyke told Sky Thoroughbred Central on Thursday.

“She’s still not 100 per cent, but I’m thinking tomorrow morning she’ll get the tick of approval from Dr Suann when he comes out to look at her.”
