Wyong Magic Millions 2yo Classic Tips – 2014

Punters haven’t worried about first-starter Surf Seeker drawing wide in Thursday’s Wyong Magic Millions 2yo Classic and have rushed to support the Hawkes Racing galloper in early betting. Opening up at $6.50, the son of Wanted is now pressing for favouritism at $4.80. In front of him is Kevin Moses’ Zoutenant who on debut, ran a solid second to the impressive winner Voilier. Half of the twelve horse field will be commencing their careers, among them, Warwick Farm trainer Bryce Heys’ $600k purchase Chubbz along with Perignon and Triple Charged for Gerald Ryan. By More Than Ready out of Polaway, a daughter of Golden Slipper winner Polar Success, Chubbz won a Wyong trial here recently in good style and should attract plenty of interest at $14.00. Ryan’s pair have been kept very safe in early markets with Perignon ($6.50) and Triple Charged ($11.00)

1. MORAL OUTRAGE – J Bowman (6)

Made his debut for the Hayes/Dabernig partnership by running seventh (2.1 lengths) behind Pierrette at Randwick before chasing home smart pairing of Carriages and Prompt Return in the Clockwise Classic at Ballarat just over three weeks ago. Race and travel experience, combined with a good draw and jockey, should see him run a bold race.

2. ZOUTENANT – G Schofield (2)

The Kevin Moses trained galloper stepped out as favourite when making his debut at Rosehill a fortnight ago. Leading from the inside gate, the son of Zizou was no match late for the well supported Voilier and finished second, 3.5 lengths away. Will take up a similar role here from his draw and that’ll be an advantage around the tight Wyong track. With natural improvement expected after his initial outing, he should be in contention here for a long way.

3. TRUST MY LUCK – T Angland (1)

Unwanted in betting on debut (25/1 out to 50/1) but the Testa Rossa colt ran a better race than his price suggested. He was three back on the fence turning, missed a run at the top of the straight before getting to the outside and closing well late, running fourth (2.5 lengths) to Sampeah. Might find himself in a similar position in transit here from the inside draw and will need some luck turning but, did show enough on debut to warrant consideration here.

4. CHUBBZ – B Shinn (5)

Warwick Farm trainer Bryce Heys travelled his well-bred More Than Ready colt to Wyong a fortnight ago for his only trial in preparation for his debut on Thursday. Chubbz sat just off the speed but was strong late, winning the 800m dash with something to spare on the line. Shinn will ensure he gets a good run here from gate five and off of his trial effort, the well-bred type will be sure to have his share of admirers.

5. NARANJA – B Avdulla (9)

Cost connections $100k at this year’s Magic Millions Sale and being a full brother to Kris Lees’ G2 placed Parriwi, they wisely chose the same trainer to overlook this colt’s career. He has had two barrier trials this month, the most recent of which resulted in a narrow win in a five horse trial at Newcastle. Avdulla rode Naranja in that trial and sticks with him here.

6. SURF SEEKER – J McDonald (11)

Eliza Park races this Wanted Colt who cost $120k to secure. Under the care of Hawkes Racing, he was kept under a good hold when second in this only trial to Godolphin’s Bosnia who is entered for the 2yo race at Flemington this Saturday. Liked his trial effort but the wide draw means he’ll have plenty of work to do regardless if he pushes forward or settles back.

7. SINGLE GAZE – K O’Hara (12)

Not wanted in betting when making her debut as an 80/1 shot in an Open 2yo race at Rosehill a fortnight ago however, the Not A Single Doubt filly relished the solid pace set up front and stormed home from near last on the turn to record a length win over Zulu Royal. How far back she’ll get from the widest draw is a concern – particularly on the Wyong track however, she was very impressive on debut and was strong through the line.

8. CHLOE’S COMET – T Berry (10)

Sat behind leader and ultimate winner Aegean Sea when third (2.5 lengths) on debut before only being able to hold her ground on the heavy track in a Maiden Plate at Warwick Farm recently, finishing sixth (2.7 lengths) behind Racy. Better on top of the ground and showed enough on debut to be given some sort of place chance here.

9. FIERY REDHEAD – W Costin (3)

Settled in the second half of the field when making her debut in a 2yo Plate at Randwick mid-October but he Nick Osborne trained galloper was unable to improve her position in the run home, finishing second to last in the field of eight and over eight lengths from the winner Salerno. Hasn’t race or trialled since that run and happy to see what the Jet Spur filly can offer here.

10. PERIGNON – K McEvoy (4)

Perignon, by Snitzel, is a full brother to Hollyweird, a horse that Ryan enjoyed success with as a juvenile including a second placing behind Karuta Queen in the Heritage Stakes. His only trial to date saw him slowly away before railing through to run second to impressive winner Bosnia. Snitzel 2yo from the Gerald Ryan yard – can’t be left out.

11. PRECOCIOUS – T Clark (8)

Will be making her race but for Warwick Farm trainer Matthew Smith on Thursday. A filly by Big Brown, she’s out of Military Blonde and cost connections $30k. Her only trial saw her jump well, lead and run third (neck) under a good hold. Looked a professional type in the trial but has blown in early betting which for a first starter isn’t a good sign.

12. TRIPLE CHARGED – J Cassidy (7)

Triple Charge will be out to further enhance the winning relationship between Ryan and Chris and Michael ward of Triple Crown Syndications. Purchased for $65k, the Charge Forward colt is a full brother to Bradman and Zaragoza, who after a successful 2yo season that included a close-up fifth to Ruud Awakening and Bounding at G1 level, was sold to Macau. Jumped well at her only trial and ran second under hands and heels riding.

RACE OVERVIEW

An intriguing race with so much at stake. Zoutenant leads but hard to know how keen, if at all, the first-starters will be to contest that position. Zoutenant railed well on debut and that’ll be a big advantage here at Wyong. Liked the trial effort of Chubbz and the fact that Heys brought him to Wyong for it. That should stand him in good stead. Another at double figure odds is Trust My Luck who did well on debut and will be better for the experience. Form out of that run has stood up well with Let’s Make It Rain who ran second, narrowly beaten in Saturday’s Inglis Nursery. If he can stay with them early, should be able to finish strongly late.

1. ZOUTENANT

2. CHUBBZ

3. TRUST MY LUCK

4. PERIGNON
