Weather key to All Aged Stakes 2014 for Snitzerland

Snitzerland could be tried over 1400 metres in the All Aged Stakes, but only if the track is dry.

The Lightning Stakes winner showed trainer Gerald Ryan she had inherited none of her sire Snitzel’s wet track ability when she struggled in the TJ Smith Stakes won by Lankan Rupee.

Snitzel, winner of a wet Oakleigh Plate, was only tried over 1400 metres once, finishing fourth in the 2006 All Aged in his final race start.

“I’d like to try her over 1400 metres but the track has to be dry,” Ryan said.

“She just didn’t handle it in the TJ.

“She has also been entered for the Victory Stakes at Eagle Farm on Saturday if there is a wet track.

“But hopefully the forecasts are right and she can run in the Group One in Sydney.”

Snitzerland’s stablemate Hot Snitzel has also been entered for the Group Two weight-for-age Victory Stakes (1200m).

“Hot Snitzel will also be nominated for the Hall Mark Stakes in Sydney,”Ryan said.

Hot Snitzel ran second to Flamberge in the Sebring Stakes on April 5 on a wet track at his first start for several months.

Royal Sovereign Stakes winner Sidestep will run in the All Aged if Peter Snowden is confident he can back up within seven days.

Joe Pride will have two All Aged runners with Steps In Time to be reunited with her Coolmore Classic winning jockey Jim Cassidy and Hugh Bowman to ride Tiger Tees.

Japanese visitor Hana’s Goal, an eye-catching sixth in the Doncaster Mile, will be ridden by Nash Rawiller.

Rebel Dane, second to Lankan Rupee in the TJ Smith, is a confirmed All Aged starter.

“He was very tired the day after the TJ Smith but he picked up by the Monday,” trainer Gary Portelli said.

“He’s kept improving since.

“He has proven he is versatile and can run on wet or dry and I’m very happy to be going to the 1400 metres.”
