Trainer Donald “Ducky” Baker has bounced back from a shocking start to the day to welcome Mr Favulous to the winner’s stall after the Listed Weetwood Handicap.

Baker’s promising two-year-old Hello Hornsby pulled up distressed and was later put down after the Listed Dalrello Stakes (1200m) at Saturday’s feature Toowoomba meeting.

A downcast Baker was given a massive boost when his favourite horse Mr Favulous was able to win the Weetwood (1200m) by a length to Pillar of Creation ($12) with three-quarters of a length to third placegetter Choice Bro ($11).

It was Mr Favulous’s 11th win but he has also run 23 minor placings for $626,000 prize money.

“I really love this horse. He tries so hard in every race,” the Toowoomba-based Baker said.

“I gave him a chance today and I told Jeff (jockey Lloyd) to roll forward and take the lead.”

“He always fights on and that is what he did again today.”

Baker will now look at some of the other Listed and Group Three sprints for Mr Favulous over the winter carnival.

Lloyd has also bounced back from adversity in recent weeks.

He fell from We’re Ready at Doomben on April 18 but was back in the saddle the following Wednesday.

The winner of 93 Group One races, the South African born Lloyd has been in great form since the fall.

“Mr Favulous was able to get the lead and once there he just kept giving. He is a very fit horse,” Lloyd said.

Mr Favulous is raced by a group headed by Julia Simmons who trained the 1986 Queensland Cup winner In Top Swing.

Trainer Tony Sears provided both the minor placegetters in Pillar of Creation and Choice Bro.

“Pillar of Creation didn’t have the best of luck getting a run in the straight and Choice Bro tried hard,” Sears said.

“I’ve have been training here at Toowoomba for years and I can’t remember ever having a winner on Weetwood day.

“Surely it is my turn soon.”
