Vinery Stud Stakes History, Past Results, Winners and Odds

The Vinery Stud Stakes, also known as the Storm Queen Stakes, is a Group 1 horse race for three-year-old fillies, held each year at Rosehill Racecourse in Sydney.  This 2000 metre event is a highlight of the Sydney autumn racing season, and takes place on Golden Slipper Day alongside the Golden Slipper Stakes and The BMW Stakes.  Run since 1979, the Storm Queen Stakes has been won by many of Australia’s best horses over the years.

The Vinery Stud Stakes has been through some name changes over the years, known as the Storm Queen Stakes between 1979-91, the Ansett Australia Stakes between 1992-2001, the Arrowhead Stud Stakes between 2002-2008, the Vinery Stud Storm Stakes in 2009, and the Vinery Stud Stakes between 2010-13.  The original name, which many people still refer to, is in honour of Storm Queen, winner of the 1966 Golden Slipper Stakes.

The Vinery Stud Stakes was originally run over 1900 metres, before being lengthened to its current distance of 2000 metres in 1980.  Originally a Principal Race, this event became a Group 2 race in 1980 and a Group 1 race in 1993.  The Vinery Stud Stakes is a good lead-up race for the Group 1 ATC Australian Oaks, held two weeks later at Randwick Racecourse.
