News:

Anthony Cummings figures there is no better way to the Caulfield Guineas than via a start in the $1 million Golden Rose.

But making it work for Burning Passion isn’t going to be easy as the lightly raced three-year-old tries to improve his chances of making the Golden Rose cut at Rosehill on Saturday.

Impressive in blinkers when winning at Canterbury last week, Burning Passion has been entered for two Rosehill races – the Group Three Run To The Rose and a benchmark support event.

Cummings hasn’t booked a Run To The Rose jockey but he has secured Brenton Avdulla to take over from Tye Angland in the 1400-metre race.

The benchmark race is obviously much easier than going up against Almalad, Brazen Beau, Ghibellines and Nostradamus but Burning Passion will need a win on Saturday – and possibly a significant dropout rate – to get into the Golden Rose field.

“I’d like to give him his chance to get to the Caulfield Guineas and I think the best path is through the Golden Rose,” Cummings said.

The Gooree-owned colt, a full-brother to Group One winner Romantic Touch, is 58th in the latest order of entry with $37,000 in career earnings.

Cummings has nominated a strong team for Rosehill but depending on how three of his entries fare in the ballot at acceptance time, he could be forced to switch most of his planned Sydney runners to Melbourne for the Memsie Stakes meeting on Saturday.

Best Case is well down the order in the Premier’s Cup at Rosehill but is also nominated for the Slickpix Stakes at Caulfield.

Scandiva is entered for a Rosehill benchmark race as well as the Group Three WW Cockram Stakes at Caulfield while Spy Decoder holds a nomination for three races in both states.

“I’m like everyone else with this wet weather, I’m trying to keep my options open,” Cummings said.

Gooree is still expected to have Run To The Rose representation with Hallowed Crown nominated to make his spring return for Bart and James Cummings.

Wet ground should be the least of his worries after his Group Three win on a heavy track during The Championships at Randwick in April.
