The Quarterback heads odds for VOBIS Gold Sprint 2016

Group One winner The Quarterback is the dominant favourite to add a restricted set-weights race to his record at Caulfield.

The winner of last month’s Newmarket Handicap, The Quarterback is at $2.45 in Saturday’s $250,000 VOBIS Gold Sprint.

The race is open to horses nominated for the VOBIS Gold Series.

A last-start fifth in the William Reid Stakes at Moonee Valley, The Quarterback carries equal top weight of 59kg in the 1200m-race.

He is 10 ratings points clear of the others on 59kg, Hareeba Stakes winner Thermal Current, Iconic, Refulgent, Del Prado, We’ve Got This, So Does He and Kirani.

The Quarterback’s trainer Robbie Griffiths is using Saturday’s race as a lead-in to the Goodwood at Morphettville next month ahead of a possible trip to Royal Ascot.
