Trainer Desleigh Forster believes veteran sprinter Adebisi can lead and win the Bat Out Of Hell at the Gold Coast.

The 900m dash on Saturday is regarded as the short-course championship of Queensland and will be stacked with horses who clear the gates quickly.

But Forster says if the seven-year-old can reproduce his George Moore Stakes run, he will be hard to get past.

“He ran a great race in the George Moore Stakes recently when he led to the 100 metres and just ran out of condition.”

“Of course it is always the same story that I hope he doesn’t get too much weight.”

Adebisi is used to getting to the lead early but may not have it all his own way with last year’s all-the-way winner Plateau Gold and another noted front runner Agitate set to contest the start.

The Kelly Schweida-trained Agitate, who is resuming from a six month absence from the races, has led or shared the lead in all his 16 starts.

“I will nominate him for the race all being well he will run. I will be very interested to see if anything can head him out of the barriers,” Schweida said.

One camp which isn’t worried about the early speed is the stable of Flying Riddle who won impressively over 1100 metres at the Gold Coast on Saturday.

Green’s husband Graeme said Flying Riddle was at his best when he could get cover back in the field off a fast pace and charge home late.

“He loves the Gold Coast having won four races there and you could see what he can do with a fast pace in Saturday’s win,” Green said.

The Bat Out Of Hell is a non claiming race but the Greens are likely to stick with 3kg claiming apprentice Cassie Schmidt who has been aboard for five of Flying Riddle’s eight wins.

“She rides him exactly as we want,” Green said.
