Sacred Falls heads Epsom Handicap 2014 weights

Dual Doncaster Mile winner Sacred Falls heads the weights for the Epsom Handicap with 59kg, one kilogram more than last year’s winner Boban and emerging weight-for-age star Dissident.

Sacred Falls finished midfield in the 2013 Epsom (1600m), carrying 56.5kg, the same weight he carried to his second Doncaster victory earlier this year.

His Chris Waller-trained stablemate Boban won the Epsom on the limit of 53kg with this year’s race on October 4 handicapped on a 52kg limit.

The TAB’s $8 equal early favourites for the race are Cluster, who is on the limit, Dissident and Royal Descent, the highest weighted mare on 55.5kg.

Boban is at $11 to defend the Group One but put in a below-par showing in Saturday’s Makybe Diva Stakes at Flemington while the Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes is the likely target for Theo Marks winner Cluster.

Sea Moon has been given topweight of 58kg for the Metropolitan (2400m), the Group One staying feature on Epsom day at Randwick.

He was also topweight last year but did not run.

Next with 57.5kg is Hawkspur, the $8 second favourite behind La Amistad at $6. A close relation to Makybe Diva, La Amistad is on the limit and remains favourite despite her midfield finish in Saturday’s Kingston Town Stakes.
