Defending champion Thubiaan is one of the headline entries for the Brierly Steeplechase, the feature race on the opening day of the Warrnambool carnival.

The three-day carnival starts on Tuesday.

The winner of the Great Eastern Steeplechase at Oakbank at his most recent start, Thubiaan is one of three Brierly entries for the Eric Musgrove stable along with Earthbound and Zataglio.

Patrick Payne also has three of the 17 nominations – Lord Of The Song, No Song No Supper and Arwoc – while Gai Waterhouse has entered Valediction.

The Ciaron Maher-trained Regina Coeli is nominated for the Brierly ahead of her defence of the Grand Annual Steeplechase on Thursday.

Wednesday’s program features the Listed Wangoom Handicap (1200m) and the Galleywood Hurdle (3200m) while Thursday’s meeting is highlighted by the Listed Warrnambool Cup (2350m) and the Grand Annual Steeplechase (5500m).
