Royal Randwick Stakes 2014: Ryan youngsters to continue the trend

Gerald Ryan’s record with two-year-olds this season is second to none – and he’s not finished yet.

The Rosehill trainer has had nine individual winners of 14 races including Saturday’s Group One Sires’ Produce Stakes won by Peggy Jean.

Aerobar will get the chance to add her name to the list in Saturday’s $500,000 Royal Randwick Stakes (1200m) in which she will be joined by Ygritte, winner of a Kembla Grange maiden and second to subsequent Golden Slipper winner Mossfun in the Widden Stakes.

At her only other start, Ygritte ran second to Clifton Red in the Thoroughbred Breeders Stakes at Flemington last month.

Aerobar ran third in a midweek benchmark race on debut before again running third in the Listed Lonhro Plate.

She ran an even race when eighth in the Magic Night Stakes won by Slipper third placegetter Bring Me The Maid from Peggy Jean.

“Ygritte had a couple of weeks on the water walker and I’m happy with both her and Aerobar,” Ryan said.

Ryan has yet to decide whether Standoubt will run in Saturday’s other juvenile feature, the Fernhill Handicap (1600m) or take his place in a 1400m race on the Kensington track on Wednesday.

“I will have a look at Saturday’s likely field,” he said.

Standoubt has drawn barrier one on Wednesday while his stablemate Massacre has gate 15.

Massacre was unplaced on debut while Standoubt ran third at his only start.

Ryan’s runners in the Group One Champagne Stakes on Saturday week will include Peggy Jean and Bachman, winner of the Group Three Baillieu (1400m).

“I will keep an eye on Believe Yourself and she might also go there but Lucky Raquie will go to the paddock,” Ryan said.

“The wet tracks don’t suit her.”

Black Opal Stakes winner Lucky Raquie and Slipper fourth Believe Yourself finished with the tailenders in the Sires’ Produce.
