Results: Bonaria produces big finish to win Myer Classic 2014

Outsider Bonaria has come from the back of the field to claim the Group One Myer Classic at Flemington.

Sent out a $26 chance in the $500,000 race, Bonaria stormed down the outside of the track to beat Sydney mares Sweet Idea ($6.50) and Catkins ($7.50).

“She is a horse that has been racing without luck at her past few starts,” winning jockey Michael Rodd said.

Bonaria’s win rates up with Pat Hyland’s best career highlights as a jockey and now trainer.

“I’ve had some very good fillies but she’s very special,” Hyland said.

“Not that she’s as good as them but she tries harder than any horse I’ve had.”

Bonaria, who ran down the track behind Red Tracer in last year’s Myer, has now won eight races from 40 starts.

As a Group One-winning daughter of Redoute’s Choice, her career beyond the racetrack is assured as a valuable broodmare.
