In the news:

Smart mare Girl Guide will have her fourth jockey in as many starts when she steps out at Sandown on Wednesday.

But Girl Guide’s form is not the cause of the rider changes with the four-year-old winning two of her three previous starts.

Jake Noonan and Craig Williams won on Girl Guide at Bendigo and Mornington respectively while apprentice Kayla Nisbet rode her when she ran second at Moonee Valley two starts back.

Trainer David Hayes has booked apprentice Jye McNeil to ride Girl Guide in the TMB Printing Handicap (1300m).

“She had a big weight so we decided to claim,” Tom Dabernig, Hayes’ stable foreman, said.

“Our apprentice Kayla Nisbet would have ridden him but she has taken time off for Nathan Berry’s funeral.”

Girl Guide is on trial at 1300m but Dabernig said her last-start win left the stable confident she would be able to continue Hayes’ recent success which included a treble at last Saturday’s Flemington meeting.

“She ran out a strong 1200 (metres) last time so we’re not concerned about 1300 metres,” he said.

“She’ll be close to the pace from the barrier and should be able to sprint well.”

Imported galloper Auld Burns will debut over jumps for the Hayes stable in the Jack Dow Memorial Hurdle (3300m).

Auld Burns won once in 22 flat runs for Hayes but the six-year-old has shown promise over hurdles in two solid trials.

“He’s had a great preparation in that he’s very fit and he’s had the two hurdle trials where he hasn’t put a hoof wrong,” Dabernig said.

Dabernig said the Lindsay Park team considered sending Auld Burns to Oakbank for the South Australian track’s famous Easter meeting.

However, Hayes decided the timing of Auld Burns’s jumps debut meant the Warrnambool carnival in late April would be a better option providing the grey performed well at Sandown.

Tom Ryan will partner Auld Burns at Sandown.
