Queen’s Crown to rule at Rosehill

Queen’s Crown’s third in her first barrier trial is cause for optimism ahead of her debut at Rosehill.

The David Payne-trained filly finished behind Ottoman and Perignon in the 740m trial on December 9, with those two fillies since posting impressive wins.

Godolphin’s Ottoman was elevated to Golden Slipper favouritism after her Rosehill victory on December 20 while the Gerald Ryan-trained Perignon is right in the mix for the Magic Millions Classic following her Canterbury win on Saturday.

Queen’s Crown lines up in the 2YO Plate (1100m) on Saturday with Sam Clipperton to ride.

“It was a very strong trial and it looks even better now,” Payne said.

“She is a very nice filly and would have to be one of the best bred fillies in Australia.

“Her dam side is extremely strong.”

Queen’s Crown is by Vinery stallion Congrats, a son of A.P. Indy and she is out of Otravez whose fourth dam is the grand producer Eight Carat, the mother of five Group One winners including Octagonal and Mouawad.

Payne will also saddle up French import It’s A Silver Trail in the 2400m race at Rosehill.

The five-year-old had no luck getting out late at his Australian debut on December 20, finishing an eye-catching fourth over 1900 metres.

It’s A Silver Trail’s owners include Australian Bloodstock which races the Melbourne Cup winner Protectionist and is committed to buying stayers from Europe.

As a three-year-old It’s A Silver Trail won a 2100m race at Longchamp, beating Flintshire and Terrubi.

Earlier this months, Flintshire established himself on the world stage with his win in the Hong Kong Vase to go with his seconds in the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe and Breeders Cup Turf.

Payne said It’s A Silver Trail had thrived since his most recent start.

“He has come through very well,” he said.

“He has blossomed here and is in great condition. He is a happy horse and will appreciate the 2400 metres.”
