Pincer to strike at Canterbury

Anthony Cummings has streamlined his Randwick operation but still has plenty of runners to spread around over the holiday period.

Cummings has given up one of his stable blocks with Tony McEvoy set to move horses from Hawkesbury in the coming weeks.

Horses belonging to Gooree that were in Cummings’ stable have moved nearby to his son James whose wife Monica is the grand-daughter and racing manager for Gooree’s proprietor Eduardo Cojuangco.

“It’s the way it should happen and it’s a good result,” Cummings said.

“I’ve still got plenty to keep me busy, especially with all the racing that’s on over the next few days.”

While sorting out whether to run horses at Canterbury, Gosford, Randwick or Rosehill over the next few days, Cummings has opted to let Pincer Strike take in place on Wednesday.

The winner of two provincial races, four-year-old Pincer Strike runs in the 1250m-benchmark 67 with Adam Hyeronimus aboard.

“He will definitely run at Canterbury and I think he’ll go all right,” Cummings said.

“It looks like a good race for him.”

Pincer Strike took until he was three to get to the track, a little longer than his elder brother Never Can Tell, the winner of the 2013 Listed Canonbury Stakes for two-year-olds in which future star Criterion ran third.

Cummings has scratched Hieroglyphics from Canterbury in favour of running her at Rosehill on Saturday and will make a late decision on Love Las Vegas who holds an entry for Randwick on New Year’s Day.

While some of his off-season horses still have to prove themselves, Rule The River is well on the way and ready to step up to stakes class.

The mare won her fifth race from seven starts on Saturday to book a place in the Listed Takeover Target Stakes at Gosford on Friday week.

“After that race she will have a short break and we will give her a chance at the major mares races in the autumn,” Cummings said.
