Champion jockey Chris Munce will complete a unique feat if Wicked Intent gives him a fourth win in the $2 million Magic Millions Classic.

The youngest jockey to win the Classic at 19 years and eight months when successful on Sunblazer in 1989, Munce will become the oldest jockey at 45 years and eight months if Wicked Intent wins on January 10 at the Gold Coast.

Munce’s other two wins were for trainer Gai Waterhouse on Excellerator in 2001 and Dance Hero three years later.

The unbeaten Wicked Intent, who is trained by Munce’s father-in-law Barry Mitchell, will have his fourth start in the Group Three B J McLachlan Stakes at the Gold Coast on Saturday.

Wicked Intent has been the favourite for some time but several other Classic contenders have grabbed the attention in the past week including Saturday’s impressive Flemington winner Claudia Jean and the Wyong Classic quinella of Zoutenant and Surf Seeker.

Co-trainer Tom Dabernig confirmed he and his uncle David Hayes would be taking Claudia Jean to the Gold Coast with the filly at $8 for the Classic (1200m). Her stablemate Miss Idyllic, second to Ottoman at Rosehill on Saturday, is at $7.50 with Wicked Intent at $3.80.

“I missed Claudia Jean’s win but this is the time the Magic Millions contenders come out of the woodwork,” Munce said.

“Every year the media start talking up horses.

“But I know one thing and that is you have to only concentrate on your own horse.”

Wicked Intent tightened his grip on the Magic Millions with a dominant win in the Listed Phelan Ready (1050m) at Doomben on December 13, taking his combined margins from his three starts to 11 lengths.
