There has been no fairy tale ending for champion jockey Chris Munce in his final ride in the Brisbane metropolitan area.

Before Wednesday’s meeting, Munce announced he would retire as a jockey after he rode Wicked Intent in the Magic Millions Classic at the Gold Coast on Saturday.

Munce, who will take out a trainer’s licence, had only one ride at Doomben aboard Banchory Lass in the Breakfast Creek Hcp (1350m).

After leading to the straight Banchory Lass tired to run fourth.

“She just got a bit tired in the final 200 metres. So that’s it for Brisbane,” Munce said.

While Munce is ending his career, apprentice Sairyn Fawke has begun a new chapter with his first metropolitan winner – but not on the horse he expected.

Fawke was booked for the early favourite Doctor David in the Novotel Airport Handicap but the gelding was scratched when the track was downgraded.

However, Fawke was successful on Silverene ($18) who came from last to win the Powderade Three Year Old (1110m).

“That was my 31st winner on all tracks this season so things are starting to go well,” Fawke said.

Former promising sprinter Lucky Sound overcame a long list of injury problems to score his first win in 13 months at the Doomben meeting.

Trained at Beaudesert by Tony Crane, Lucky Sound was rated a rising star before he was beset with a series of problems late in 2013.

Crane has been patient with Lucky Sound who scored his sixth win in the Novotel Airport Hcp (1050m).

“He has had trouble with his knees, feet, fetlocks and throat. It is a pity because he is a really nice horse and could have been anything,” Crane said.

“I am really pleased for the owners because they have had to wait a while for his next win,” Crane said.
