English stayer Mukhadram, winner of the Eclipse Stakes and a Dubai World Cup placegetter, is topweight for the Caulfield Cup.

Mukhadram has been handicapped on 58kg, 1kg more than Hong Kong star Dan Excel.

Japan’s Admire Ratki has 56kg, the same weight as last year’s winner Fawkner.

Mukhadram upset a field of stars in his Eclipse win but a trip to Australia is doubtful, according to Racing Victoria chief handicapper Greg Carpenter.

“He’s a worthy topweight with 58 (kilos),” Carpenter said. “(But) it’s a challenge now to convert that entry into participation in the race.”

Nevertheless, Carpenter said the Melbourne Racing Club’s decision to scout for overseas talent seems certain to pay off.

“I think (the club) has been well rewarded for their aggressive recruiting campaign overseas,” he said.

“We’ve got a really strong line up from international jurisdictions.

“It’s been a challenging process over the past four weeks going through the 223 entries. There is a great mix of form both internationally and local.”
