Melbourne Cup winner Protectionist had intentions to return to Australia to try and make it dual victories in the race that stops a nation although those plans now look unlikely.
Connections have outlined that Protectionist is unlikely to contest the 2016 Melbourne Cup in November with an 80% chance he will not come for the race.
Protectionist is currently a $21 chance in Melbourne Cup markets.
