Talented filly May’s Dream has booked her shot at the Group One Thousand Guineas with a convincing victory at Caulfield on Sunday.

The Darren Weir-trained May’s Dream ($2.50 fav) settled off the speed in the Procal Dairies Handicap (1400m) but her rivals had no answer to the daughter of New Approach’s turn of foot in the straight as she raced clear of Bulbula ($4.20) to win by 1-1/4 lengths.

Suavito ($4) finished another 1-3/4 lengths away third.

May’s Dream is out of Group One winner She’s Archie who was trained by Weir and ran second to Makybe Diva in the 2003 Melbourne Cup.

“She was a great horse to us and it’s great to get one out of her that looks to have a bit of potential,” Weir said.

Nick Hall settled May’s Dream a couple of pairs back in the seven-horse field and had her in the clear from the time they straightened for home.

Bulbula strode to the lead rounding the home turn but couldn’t match it with May’s Dream over the final 200m.

“The Thousand Guineas has been the plan all along,” Weir said.

“The only little query with her is that she’s a late foal and looking at her in the yard, there doesn’t look a lot of her so how far she gets into the campaign I’m not sure.

“But I think she’ll get to the Thousand Guineas all right.”

The Thousand Guineas (1600m) is on October 16.

May’s Dream is on the fourth line of TAB fixed odds betting at $7 with Guelph the favourite at $2.90.

May’s Dream is also nominated for the VRC Oaks (2500m) later in the spring.

Hall said May’s Dream had “a great turn of foot” and said 1600m would be ideal for her next start.
